About Andrew
Andrew is collaborative whenever possible, and tough when necessary. Andrew's strategic counsel has helped achieved successful results for clients at all levels of court in Ontario including a successful appearance at the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Andrew was born and raised in Kingston, attended KCVI where he was valedictorian. Andrew completed undergraduate studies at the University of King’s College, earning President’s List Honours.
Andrew earned his Juris Doctor from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law. During law school Andrew volunteered with the Queen's Legal Aid Clinics, Pro Bono Students Canada, was a Teaching Assistant for Queen's University's 'Introduction to Law' undergraduate course, practiced ‘moot’ advocacy as part of the Queen’s Minute Moot Club Executive, and represented the Queen's University in the national Walsh Family Law Moot Competition.
Andrew articled and worked as an associate in family and estates litigation boutiques in downtown Toronto before returning to Kingston to practice law in 2019.
Andrew also holds a Certificate in Family Law Practice from the York University Osgoode Hall Law School.
Andrew's professional experience before law focused on childcare and youth leadership. He worked for the Kingston KEYS' Job Centre Summer Jobs for Youth Program, RKY Camp where he rose to become the Leadership Director, and (fairly briefly) at a daycare.
In his free time Andrew enjoys learning, spirited debate, sports (including long distance running, swimming, and soccer), singing as a Bass in the Cantabile Choir and strategy games. Andrew is a former yoga teacher. Andrew loves learning about a wide range of subjects, including by reading and podcasts. He's enjoyed listening to (almost) every U.S. Supreme Court oral argument since the Court began publishing them online in 2010.
Andrew is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, and the Frontenac Law Association sections for Wills, Estates and Family Law. Andrew is currently honoured to co-chair the Frontenac Law Association's Continuing Legal Education Committee.
About Paula
Paula is the Office Manager at Bala Law.
Paula was born in Saskatchewan and lived in Manitoba and six different places in Ontario before moving to Kingston where she attended Frontenac High School.
Paula’s first career was in banking: she worked for three different banks over the course of 22 years.
Paula graduated from the Loyalist College Paralegal Program in 2021 (though she has not yet attempted the Paralegal Licencing Examination).
When Paula is not at work, she can be found learning how to grow a garden with a variety of different flowers to entice the bees and hummingbirds to vegetables and watermelons. As a youth Paula loved swimming and was a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor, until her banking career took over.
